HOW CAN I KEEP INSURANCE COSTS DOWN?
- Raise the deductibles on auto, home, and health insurance, and you could save anywhere from 15 to 40% on premiums. The money you save should more than cover any out-of-pocket expenses you might incur (make sure you have adequate savings to cover any deductible payments).
- Be sure that your name (not just your husband’s) is listed on auto insurance policies. Without this protection, if you at some point were no longer a resident of the household, you may not be covered.
- If your car is more than 10 years old and worth less than $1,000, consider dropping any collision and comprehensive coverage and just carry liability. Your car could be worth less than the cost of the premiums you’re paying.
- Consider purchasing as much of your insurance as you can from a single provider to qualify for multiple policy discounts.
